Political Power over National Interests

The Democrats have alligned themselves on the side of American defeat in the war on terror. We continue to hear them call this, "the President's war" or "his mess". When did such issues of national security become the sole problems of a President that they claim is no longer relevant? They are looking at a possible defeat of America in Iraq as a political winner for them at home in '08. They have put their politcal power above the national interests of the country for which they serve. Not only is this bad for the Democrat Party (which I'm losing no sleep over), but the nation as a whole. Whenever a political party alligns itself with this country's defeat, I believe no good can come out of it. The Democrats know that if President Bush's new strategy turns the tide in Iraq, their party will be devastated, their screechings of defeatism would be revealed for the sham they are, and any aspirations of maintaining or enlarging their majority would be shot. It is due to this fact that the Democrats are now politically invested in America's defeat.
